Who Can Apply?

Students entering Kindergarten through 10th grade for the 2025–2026 school year.

To apply for kindergarten, student(s) must be 5 years of age on or before August 1st, per the State of Nevada Department of Education.

Las Vegas Academy, Del Sol Academy, and some International Baccalaureate (IB) programs accept applications for 11th grade.

Students currently enrolled in a magnet program do not have to apply for that program for subsequent years. The student may continue in that school or program until the student completes the highest grade at that school as long as the student continues to make satisfactory progress.

Late Application Information

Late applications will only be processed if a school has available seats after the annual lottery. The late lottery process is ongoing and begins after the results of the annual lottery have been communicated to on-time applicants.

Magnet schools with seats available after the annual lottery will process late applications through a computerized, random lottery process once all on-time applicants have been exhausted. Please note that preferences are not utilized during the late lottery process. Open magnet school seats can be filled until the tenth day of school or a specified date.

FAQ's

What are magnet programs?

CCSD magnet programs offer learning opportunities related to various themes for interested students. Students from across the district may apply to a magnet program regardless of the region in which they reside, however, transportation will only be provided to students living within the designated transportation boundary for the magnet program. The purpose of magnet programs are to improve student achievement, promote diversity, and create an awareness of career opportunities relative to the fields of study in which students may be interested.

What grade levels are served?

Magnet programs are offered at grades K through 12, with some exceptions. Most secondary magnet programs only accept 9th and 10th grade students because they have programs of study in which a student must participate for a minimum of three years. International Baccalaureate programs occasionally accept students at 11th grade because the program of study requires a minimum of two years participation. Performing Arts programs at Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts and Las Vegas Academy of the Arts occasionally audition 11th grade students.

Who can attend a magnet school?

Any student currently residing or planning to reside in Clark County may submit an application to attend a magnet school of their choice. Entry is criteria-based, interest-based, or audition-based. Students must meet minimum eligibility requirements in order to be considered in the lottery process for criteria-based high school programs. Students must meet audition criteria in order to be considered in the lottery process for creative and performing arts high school programs. If they qualify, are accepted, and choose to enroll, students must attend the magnet school full-time and remain enrolled for the entire school year. Students are not permitted to attend a magnet school part-time to take individual classes.

Is transportation provided?

While any student can apply, students wishing to receive transportation must reside within the transportation zone and live further than two miles from a school per CCSD Regulation 3531. To view magnet transportation zones, utilize the maps included on the Magnet Transportation page. Additional transportation eligibility information is available on the Transportation website.

The transportation website information is for the 2024–2025 school year. Stop locations may be adjusted year to year to maintain safe, efficient, and economical operation of transportation service. Adjustments to magnet transportation zones are not reflected on the transportation website.

Are siblings kept together when they apply to the same school?

It is the intent of CCSD to avoid separating siblings when possible, but there is no guarantee that both siblings will be selected to the same school. The only exception is made for twins/triplets (multiples). If a set of twins/triplets (multiples) apply to the same school and one twin/triplet (multiple) is accepted, the other twin/triplet (multiple), if qualified, will be offered a seat at the same school.

Do students have the opportunity to participate in afterschool and extracurricular activities at the magnet schools?

According to CCSD Regulation 5132, participation in afterschool or extracurricular clubs and organizations is limited to students enrolled at that school. Therefore, students enrolled at a magnet school may participate in the clubs and organizations at their magnet school but may not participate in clubs and organizations offered at their zoned school.
*Please note, since cheer is not a CCSD/Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) sport, athletic rules about participating at a student’s zoned school do not apply.

Do students have the opportunity to participate in athletics at the magnet schools?

Magnet students may be able to participate in sports at their zoned school. All CCSD and NIAA rules and regulations apply. Specific information applicable to students in magnet schools is included in the NIAA Handbook and NAC 386.787.
With the exception of Southeast CTA, CTAs and Las Vegas Academy do not participate in NIAA athletics. If a student attends a CTA or the Las Vegas Academy, it is the responsibility of the parent and student to communicate with the student’s zoned school regarding eligibility for sports participation. Athletes attending a CTA or the Las Vegas Academy are responsible for their own transportation to the zoned school to participate in practices, matches, and games.
*Please note, since cheer is not a CCSD/Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) sport, athletic rules about participating at a student’s zoned school do not apply.

If a student attends a magnet program in an elementary or middle school, may they continue in these programs at the middle or high school level?

Placement in a magnet program is not guaranteed. All students must submit an application by the annually specified application deadline. The District reserves up to 25% of the available seats in middle and high school programs for qualifying incoming students who attended a magnet school at the lower level. Those students who are not selected in this 25% will be placed in the general lottery.

Are there any costs associated with entrance into magnet programs?

No application, tuition, or entrance fees are charged for admission. Some schools or programs may require a program fee for enrolled students. Contact individual school sites for information regarding program fees.

If a student does not like the magnet program, can he/she transfer to his/her zoned school?

The magnet school shall be considered the assigned school of students who are selected and in attendance at the beginning of the school year. Students who are accepted and complete enrollment are expected to attend the magnet school for at least one school year.

If a student-athlete returns to his/her zoned school or makes any other subsequent changes in enrollment, he/she would be ineligible for the remainder of that school year and for 180 school days in any sport as per NIAA (Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association).
